Below are the aspects that we will be covering during Autumn 1 2020
English:
War Horse
- Using inference to identify character's feelings and thoughts based on text evidence
- Reading a range of fiction and non-fiction texts with specific skill-related questions
- Develop their understanding of a range of vocabulary obtained from different texts
- To use spelling rules and patterns to change the meaning of words by using prefixes and suffixes
- To identify a wide range of grammatical features within sentences
- Writing a character and setting description based on War Horse
- Creating an information text about animals used during WW1
Maths
- Identifying the place value of numbers up to 7 digits
- Rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000
- Using written methods for all four mathematical operations
- Identifying fractions of shapes and numbers
- Solving a range of reasoning problems
- Reinforce understanding of using the most efficient method when solving arithmetic problems
History:
The Great War
- To understand the reasons behind WW1
- To understand different roles during WW1 and the living conditions
- To infer feelings from different points of view during the war: child, women, soldiers
- To design and make a scale model of a trench based on research
Science:
Micro-organisms
- Classifying living things into broad groups
- Observe similarities and differences based on the characteristics of animals, plants and micro-organisms

To investigate how different conditions affect the rate of bacteria growth
- To create a branching diagram based upon the characteristics of living things
PE:
Gymnastics
- To explore a range of shapes and balances to create a sequence
- To include a range of jumps and rolls at different levels in their routine
- To peer assess and suggest improvements
- To understand the importance of stretching and warming up before exercise
